Devlog #5: Boss Fights

Status update time!

First let me say that the game is getting quite close to a playable release! I've decided to release the first version on the discord first. From there, I will decide what work if any is required to publish here on itch. Be sure to join to be notified when the game is released!

Discord Server

Since the last update I've implemented the entire new game intro, including the tutorial. Check that off the list!

Then I go to work finalizing the boss fight mechanics. I'm pretty happy with what I've got working now. The boss has two magical shields. You can't do any damage to them until you destroy the shields. Take a look!

But when the shields are removed, the boss starts to cast spells at the player! Using a wand? Or a staff? No, don't be silly. They fire their spells out of their...

Cause why not.

Defeating bosses gets you a Power Gem, which is a rarer resource used to purchase upgrades etc. in the player's castle.  It also unlocks a new photo of them to view later!

So, looking forwards, all that remains is the progression content for each of the mages! To break this down a little, here's the three categories of content that will be unlockable for each mage:

1. Cards: These are powerful tools to use in combat. I have a few different types already implemented, and plans for a good few more. The good news is I'm not expecting any of these to take too much time.

2. Upgrades: These are the passives that make you stronger in combat. Once again I have some already implemented and plans for more. These are quite simple to implement.

3. Photoshoots: Your mages will pose for you as you get more comfortable with each other. There will be hundreds of unique photos to unlock in the game. I have many of these created already, just need to sort through them and put them in the game!

Once these are in, the game will be ready to be played! At which point, I'll move into a playtesting phase and identify any balance issues or bugs. Then it will be time to publish!

Thanks for reading and following this project. I'm very excited to get it in your hands!
